High-Performance Connectivity and Throughput
The Balance 580X handles demanding network loads through gigabit-capable bonding and a variety of load distribution algorithms. The multi-WAN architecture supports PPPoE, static IPs, and DHCP, enhanced by WAN link health checks via PING, DNS lookup, and HTTP. A bandwidth quota monitor prevents unexpected costs, while algorithms such as Weighted, Enforced, Persistence, Priority, Overflow, Least Used, and Lowest Latency ensure optimal traffic distribution. This keeps business-critical services available even during line failures.
Flexible WAN Options and SIM Management
The configurable 2.5G PoE++ ports can be operated as either WAN or LAN interfaces, enabling clean cabling. For additional redundancy, 5G/4G/3G USB modems can be integrated. The SIM Injector FlexModule centralizes the management of multiple SIM cards, simplifying the use of mobile connections. Dynamic DNS services such as changeip.com, dyndns.org, no-ip.org, tzo.com, and DNS-O-Matic, along with the option to convert WAN ports into LAN ports, further enhance flexibility.
Comprehensive Security and VPN
A stateful firewall, DoS prevention, and web blocking protect the network at the perimeter level. SpeedFusion VPN provides site-to-site tunnels with bandwidth aggregation, hot failover, and 256-bit AES encryption. Authentication is supported via pre-shared keys or X.509 certificates, with dynamic routing also available. Additionally, PPTP, L2TP, and OpenVPN servers with local user, LDAP, RADIUS, and Active Directory authentication, as well as IPsec and GRE tunnels for network-to-network connections, are available.
Intelligent Management and Deployment
Management is possible via the web interface, command line, or the cloud-based InControl platform. Active session lists, bandwidth statistics, Syslog, and SNMP v1/v2c/v3 provide comprehensive visibility. The integrated AP controller automatically detects Pepwave APs, distributes firmware, and configures profiles. A captive portal with RADIUS/LDAP authentication, time and volume quotas, and a customizable splash page enables guest access. VLANs, DHCP reservation, DNS proxy, authoritative DNS server (A, CNAME, NS, MX, PTR, SOA, SRV, TXT), and routing protocols such as BGP, OSPFv2, and RIPv2 round out the feature set.
