The D-Link DIS-M100G-SW is an industrial media converter that turns a 10/100/1000BASE-T copper connection into a fiber link, significantly extending the reach of industrial networks. Typical applications include connecting remote control cabinets on the factory floor, bridging long distances in building and outdoor cabling, and deployment in enclosures and junction boxes along conveyor lines where a rugged, interference-free link is required. It can also serve as a copper drop from an already-laid fiber run, for example between two buildings or plant halls, without having to replace existing network equipment.

Technical Overview

The media converter reaches a 4 Gbps switching capacity with a maximum forwarding rate of 2.976 Mpps in Gigabit mode, operating in store-and-forward mode. Auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX on the twisted-pair ports simplify installation, and IEEE 802.3u/802.3ab/802.3z ensure compatibility with existing network equipment. IEEE 802.3x flow control plus back pressure in half-duplex mode prevent packet loss under high network load, while wire-speed forwarding on every port keeps data transmission delay-free.

Reliability and Compliance

With an MTBF of over 25 years, power consumption of just 3.6 W, and CE Class A, FCC Class A and LVD (EN60950-1) certifications, the DIS-M100G-SW is built for low-maintenance continuous operation. At 190 g and a compact 26.1 x 70 x 95 mm footprint, it fits into cabinets even where space is tight.
