Modularity and Connectivity
The Balance SDX Pro features two FlexModule slots, allowing you to customize the router with the connectivity each deployment requires. Modules can house additional mobile modems or a SIM injector capable of managing up to 56 4FF nano SIM cards, simplifying connectivity management for fleets and distributed locations. The router includes 2 mobile modems with redundant 4FF nano SIM slots and supports Mini-SIM (2FF), Peplink eSIM, BYO eSIM with 2 profiles, RemoteSIM from the SIM injector, and FusionSIM. WAN connectivity options include 2x 10G SFP+ ports, 2x GE WAN ports, 2x USB 2.0 ports, and the 2 FlexModule slots, all configurable to suit your environment’s needs.
Performance and Hardware Redundancy
With 24 Gbps router throughput and two 10G SFP+ WAN ports, the Balance SDX Pro is built for data-intensive enterprise applications. The 1U 19-inch rack-mount chassis includes two hot-swappable AC power supplies (100–240V input), a 420W PoE+ budget, and a base chassis power consumption of 140W. WAN ports are convertible to LAN—2x GE and 2x 10GE SFP+—providing additional flexibility in network segmentation. The router supports high availability and Drop-In mode, allowing seamless integration into existing networks without reconfiguring the topology. A front-panel OLED display provides real-time device status information.
Edge Computing and 2 TB SSD
This Balance SDX Pro variant includes a 2 TB SSD for storing virtual machines, containers, and content caching. The edge computing platform supports Docker, Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM), and ContentHub, which can cache video, iTunes, iTunes U, TED.com, HTML, JavaScript, images, and Flash applications. This capability enables the router to deliver websites, applications, and containers directly to connected devices, reducing WAN bandwidth dependency for recurring content.
VPN, Security, and Routing
The Balance SDX Pro offers a comprehensive VPN solution based on SpeedFusion, featuring bandwidth bonding, hot failover, and 256-bit AES encryption. Unencrypted SpeedFusion VPN throughput reaches 1 Gbps, while AES-256 encrypted throughput achieves 600 Mbps. The router supports up to 800 PepVPN/SpeedFusion peers and 500 IPsec tunnels with X.509 certificate support. Security features include DoS prevention, stateful firewall inspection, and web blocking. For routing, the device supports BGP, OSPFv2, and RIPv2, along with NAT, port forwarding, static routes, and 1024 802.1q VLANs. VPN authentication is compatible with local users, LDAP, RADIUS, and Active Directory.
Quality of Service and AP Controller
The advanced QoS system allows bandwidth reservation by user groups, individual limits, and application prioritization—including SIP, HTTPS, and VPN—with custom QoS rules. The built-in AP controller is compatible with the Pepwave AP series and supports automatic discovery, firmware management, profile configuration, and Wi-Fi usage statistics, with capacity for up to 2000 access points. The captive portal works with wired and wireless LAN clients, supports RADIUS and LDAP authentication, and enables time and usage quotas in open-access mode with a customizable splash page. Intelligent load balancing offers failover, session persistence, and service-based distribution with algorithms for weighted, priority, overflow, least-used, lowest-latency, and fastest-response load balancing.
Management and Administration
The Balance SDX Pro can be managed via web interface, command line, or Peplink’s InControl cloud platform. It supports email notifications and SNMP v1, v2c, and v3 for integration with existing monitoring systems. A dedicated management port and console port provide administrative access independent of data traffic. WAN features include support for PPPoE, static IP, and DHCP, link health checks via PING, DNS Lookup, and HTTP, IPv6 support, USB 3G/4G modem compatibility, and dynamic DNS services such as changeip.com, dyndns.org, no-ip.org, tzo.com, and DNS-O-Matic.
