Powerful WAN and LAN Capabilities

The Pepwave MAX firmware offers comprehensive WAN protocol support, including PPPoE, static IP, and DHCP. An integrated WAN link health check continuously monitors connection quality, while bandwidth allocation ensures efficient usage. Additionally, the WAN port can be converted into a LAN port as needed.

On the LAN side, you benefit from a full-featured DHCP server with advanced DHCP options, DHCP reservation, and a DNS proxy for local clients. VLAN support enables a segmented network architecture directly on the router.

Security and VPN Integration

The stateful firewall works with DoS prevention and web blocking to protect the network from threats. For cross-site connectivity, a complete VPN solution is available: SpeedFusion VPN for site-to-site tunnels, IPsec (network-to-network), and remote user access via PPTP, L2TP, and OpenVPN. Encryption is handled with 256-bit AES, with authentication via pre-shared keys or X.509 certificates.

Intelligent Load Balancing and Quality of Service

The firmware supports multiple outbound load-balancing algorithms—including weighted balance, priority, overflow, persistence, least used, lowest latency, enforced policy, and fastest response time—to always select the optimal WAN path.

Advanced QoS mechanisms allow for custom bandwidth limits and the prioritization of applications such as SIP, HTTPS, VPN, and user-defined applications, ensuring consistently high voice and data quality.

Management and Extensibility

The built-in AP controller supports the Peplink AP series with automatic discovery, firmware management, profile configuration, and Wi-Fi usage statistics. Edge computing capabilities enable the execution of applications and Docker containers (on HW3+ and above).

Additionally, the firmware provides comprehensive network services such as NAT, IP forwarding, static routes, port forwarding, various NAT modes, NAT pool, SIP and H.323 ALG, as well as UPnP and NAT-PMP.
