VPN & Security
The MAX Orbit 8 offers a complete VPN solution based on SpeedFusion VPN, which supports site-to-site connections with 256-bit AES encryption, pre-shared key authentication, and dynamic routing. VPN functionality is extended through X.509 certificate support and IPsec VPN for network-to-network tunnels. PPTP, L2TP, and OpenVPN are available for remote access, and GRE tunnel support is offered for additional tunneling requirements.
Security is ensured through a stateful firewall with DoS protection, web blocking, and web content filtering. These features allow administrators to control traffic and protect the network from denial-of-service attacks as well as unwanted web content.
Load Balancing & Network Features
Multiple outbound policy algorithms give administrators precise control over traffic distribution across WAN connections. Supported algorithms include weighted balance, priority, overflow, persistence, lowest usage, lowest latency, enforced use, and fastest response time. WAN support includes PPPoE, static IP, and DHCP, with WAN connection health checks and bandwidth monitoring to keep track of connection status. WAN can also be configured as LAN to allow flexible port usage.
Network features include NAT and IP forwarding, static routes, port forwarding, many-to-one and one-to-one NAT, and NAT pool support. SIP ALG and H.323 ALG are supported for voice and video traffic, as are UPnP and NAT-PMP. Dynamic routing is possible via OSPF, BGP, and RIPv2, and VRRP high-availability support enables redundant router configurations.
Quality of Service & Edge Computing
Advanced QoS allows individual bandwidth limits and application prioritization, with dedicated QoS treatment for SIP, HTTPS, and VPN traffic. Custom QoS rules for applications can be created to meet specific traffic management requirements. Edge computing support extends the platform's capabilities by allowing applications and Docker containers to run directly on the device.
Management & Monitoring
Device management is accessible via a web administration interface, a command-line interface, and InControl 2 cloud management. Email notifications, active client and session lists, and bandwidth usage statistics provide continuous operational visibility. Syslog service and SNMP v1, v2c, and v3 are supported for integration with external monitoring systems.
The integrated AP controller supports Peplink AP Series access points with automatic AP detection, automatic AP firmware management, AP profile configuration, and Wi-Fi usage statistics. A captive portal is available for wired LAN clients, with RADIUS authentication, time and usage limits in open access mode, and a built-in, customizable login page.
GPS & Fleet Management
Integrated GPS enables device location mapping and location tracking via InControl 2. The fleet management features in InControl 2 allow operators to monitor and manage deployed devices through a central cloud platform.
