Reliable Overvoltage Protection for Ethernet Networks

The ELA-100 provides robust protection against transient overvoltages induced by lightning strikes. With a DC breakdown voltage of 230 V (±20 %) and a nominal surge current of 20 kA (8/20 μs), it safely diverts high-energy impulses to ground. Key parameters – an arc voltage of approximately 35 V at 1 A, a glow voltage of approximately 200 V, and a glow-to-arc transition current of approximately 1 A – ensure defined triggering behavior and reliable arc extinction after the discharge process.

Flexible Integration with Passive Gigabit Ports and PoE Passthrough

The two passive 10/100/1000Base-T ports allow seamless integration into existing Ethernet cabling. They support IEEE 802.3at PoE+ and 802.3bt PoE++ and pass through both data and PoE power. This makes the ELA-100 ideal for protecting PoE-powered devices such as IP cameras, wireless access points, and other network-powered endpoints without altering the network topology.

Installation and Operating Environment

The ELA-100 features a dedicated grounding point that must be connected to a suitable earth ground to ensure effective protection. The compact housing (65 x 42 x 20 mm, 80 g) allows space-saving installation in protected environments. The operating temperature range of 0 to 60 °C with relative humidity of 5 % to 90 % (non-condensing), as well as a storage temperature range of -20 to 70 °C, cover a wide variety of deployment scenarios.

Certification and Compliance

The ELA-100 meets the requirements of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and is therefore suitable for use in corresponding regulated markets. Compliance with these standards underscores the device's electromagnetic compatibility and safety.
