Cellular connectivity and dual SIM

The terminal uses the Quectel EG91-EX module to provide LTE Cat 1 coverage on the FDD bands B1/B3/B7/B8/B20/B28 dedicated to the EMEA region. If 4G is unavailable, it automatically switches to 3G (UMTS/HSPA) on WCDMA bands B1/B8, then to 2G (GSM/GPRS) on bands B3/B8. Cellular speeds reach a maximum of 10 Mbps downlink and 5 Mbps uplink on LTE FDD, 384 Kbps symmetric on WCDMA, and 107 Kbps downlink / 85.6 Kbps uplink on GPRS.

The Dual-SIM feature allows two SIM cards to be inserted, significantly reducing roaming costs when crossing borders. The terminal supports SMS messaging in text and data modes and communicates via SMS and GPRS commands for configuration, event reporting, digital output control, and debugging. A high-gain external LTE Cat 1 cellular antenna ensures radio signal quality.

GNSS positioning

The FMC640 includes a GNSS receiver compatible with five positioning systems: GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BEIDOU, and QZSS. The receiver has 33 tracking channels and 99 acquisition channels, with a tracking sensitivity of -165 dBm. Positioning accuracy is less than 3 meters. Start-up times are under 1 second for hot start, 25 seconds for warm start, and 35 seconds for cold start.

A high-gain external GNSS antenna is provided to optimize satellite signal reception. The terminal is compatible with NMEA, GGA, GGL, GSA, GSV, RMC, and VTG protocols, facilitating integration with third-party systems. GNSS disconnection detection is also supported to alert in case of antenna unplugging.

Vehicle interfaces and integration

The terminal offers a comprehensive set of interfaces for integration into vehicles and specialized equipment. It features four digital inputs, four digital outputs, four analog inputs, one 1-Wire port, two RS232 ports, one RS485 port, two CAN J1939 interfaces, one J1708 interface, and one K-line interface. A USB 2.0 Mini-USB port is also included for local configuration.

CAN data reading covers FMS CAN (J1939), fuel CAN data (J1708), and real-time tachograph data via K-Line. The terminal supports remote download of tachograph files (DDD) and online tachograph data. It is compatible with various third-party RS232 or RS485 devices, as well as Garmin equipment, RS232 and 1-Wire RFID readers, 1-Wire iButtons, and 1-Wire temperature sensors.

The FMC640 also supports accessories such as the LV-CAN200, ALL-CAN300, CAN-CONTROL, Continental tire pressure sensors, the Iridium SBD module (TSM232), and Carrier refrigeration systems. An internal flash memory of 2 MB is supplemented by a Micro SD card slot supporting up to 32 GB.

Telematics and driving functions

The terminal includes an accelerometer for motion detection and offers driving analysis features: Green/Eco Driving, speeding detection, jamming detection, excessive idling detection, towing detection, and crash detection. An immobilizer and iButton reading notification are also available. Geolocation functions include auto-geofencing and manual geofencing, trip detection, odometer, and fuel meter.

Offline tracking is supported, along with precise fuel level and temperature monitoring via LLS sensors. Several power-saving modes are available: GPS Sleep, Online Deep Sleep, and Deep Sleep, allowing power consumption to be adapted to the usage context.

Configuration and management

Configuration and firmware updates are performed via FOTA Web, FOTA, and the Teltonika Configurator. Two status LEDs indicate terminal operation. SMS and GPRS commands enable remote configuration of settings, event reception, digital output control, and debugging. Support for Micro SD cards up to 32 GB provides extended storage for tracking data and downloaded files.

Power supply and environment

The terminal operates on an input voltage range of 10 to 30 V DC with surge protection. An internal 550 mAh Ni-MH backup battery at 8.4 V ensures operation during power outages. The operating temperature range, without the battery, spans from -40 °C to +85 °C, identical to the storage range. Operating humidity is between 5% and 95% non-condensing, and the protection rating is IP41.

Use cases

The FMC640 is suitable for international logistics, refrigerated transport, agriculture, construction, and mining, as well as security and emergency services. Its multi-network connectivity with dual SIM and automatic 3G/2G fallback makes it ideal for cross-border routes where LTE coverage is not guaranteed. The extended CAN interfaces and LLS sensor support meet the requirements of heavy and specialized transport, particularly for fuel monitoring and tachograph regulatory compliance.
