Cellular and Ethernet connectivity

The RUTX09 supports 4G/LTE Cat 6 and 3G mobile networks, with two external 2FF-format SIM slots enabling redundancy through automatic failover. Carrier aggregation allows cellular speeds of up to 300 Mbps. Two SMA connectors are dedicated to mobile antennas. On the wired network side, the router includes four 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports: one WAN port configurable as LAN and three LAN ports. Support for up to 128 port- or tag-based VLANs provides advanced network segmentation for industrial deployments.

Security and VPN

The RUTX09 integrates a firewall and multiple VPN services, including OpenVPN, IPsec, PPTP, L2TP, and DMVPN. Supported network protocols include TCP, UDP, IPv4, IPv6, ICMP, NTP, DNS, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SMTP, SSLv3, TLS 1.3, ARP, PPP, PPPoE, DHCP, and Telnet. These security features maximise data protection in IoT and M2M environments.

Remote management and monitoring

The router is compatible with Teltonika’s Remote Management System (RMS), enabling remote monitoring, maintenance, configuration, and firmware updates (FOTA). Available management and monitoring methods include a web interface, CLI, SSH, SMS, TR-069, SNMP, JSON-RPC, MQTT, and RMS. The RUTX09 also supports multiple cloud solutions, including Azure IoT Hub, Cloud of Things, Cumulocity, ThingWorx, and Telenor.

Hardware and industrial design

The RUTX09 is powered by a Qualcomm quad-core ARM Cortex A7 processor clocked at 717 MHz, paired with 256 MB of Flash memory and 256 MB of RAM. It runs RutOS, a Linux-based operating system derived from OpenWrt, providing sufficient processing power for custom applications. The aluminium housing with DIN rail mounting and grounding is suitable for industrial environments. Power is supplied via a 4-pin connector accepting 9–50 VDC.

Inputs/outputs, GNSS, and mobile features

The router features one digital input and one open-collector digital output on a 4-pin connector, as well as a USB host port. The GNSS system supports GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, and QZSS via a dedicated SMA connector, with services including NMEA forwarding, AVL, and geofencing for location and time synchronisation. Mobile features include multi-PDN, Auto APN, band locking, SIM switching, operator blacklists/whitelists, and data/SMS limits. Additional services such as DDNS, VRRP, Wake On LAN, web filtering, UPnP, Samba network sharing, and traffic logging are also available.
