  • Industrial protocols: Profinet Class B (optional), EtherNet/IP, MRP

Performance and Throughput

The SWM280 handles demanding data loads with a 56 Gbps non-blocking architecture and a forwarding rate of 83.33 Mpps. A 512 KB packet buffer and an 8,000-entry MAC address table ensure stable performance even with high client density. Jumbo frames up to 10,000 bytes are supported, as well as flow control (IEEE 802.3x) and Energy-Efficient Ethernet (802.3az).

Management and Layer 2/3 Features

The TSWOS operating system, based on OpenWrt, enables comprehensive configuration and monitoring. In addition to static IPv4/IPv6 routing, the switch supports dynamic routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF v2, RIP v1/v2, and EIGRP. Layer 2 features include VLAN (802.1Q), STP/RSTP, loop protection, and port mirroring. QoS is managed via port, DSCP, and 802.1p priorities with SP/WFQ/WRR scheduling, as well as rate limiting and storm control. An integrated DHCP server and client with MAC wildcard support, along with LLDP and SNMP V2/V3, complete the management suite.

Security and Industrial Protocols

For use in manufacturing and critical infrastructure, the SWM280 offers Profinet Class B conformance (optional), EtherNet/IP, and MRP client/manager roles. Access control is provided via 802.1x (client and server), MAC filtering with port-based authorisation, RADIUS/TACACS+, and PAM. VLAN separation and IP/login attempt blocking further enhance network security. Diagnostic tools such as cable diagnostics, ping, traceroute, and PoE ping reboot simplify operation.

Design and Power Supply

The rugged aluminium housing with IP30 protection and 19-inch rack mounting makes the switch suitable for harsh environments. The 12 PoE+ ports (1–12) each deliver up to 30 W in accordance with IEEE 802.3af/at (Alternative A), with a total budget of 300 W. Power is supplied via a C14 connector (100–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz). Typical consumption is 7.5 W at idle and up to 325 W under full load. Status LEDs for power, Ethernet, and SFP, as well as a software reset button and grounding terminal, are included.
