Description

Key Benefits at a Glance

  • Compact port density: 48 Gigabit copper ports plus four 10GE SFP+ uplinks for flexible network connectivity
  • Stacking-capable: two dedicated stacking ports enable the combination of multiple switches into a single logical unit
  • PoE+ power supply: powers devices such as access points or IP phones directly via data cables
  • Layer 3 routing: supports static routes as well as RIPv1/v2, RIPng, OSPF, and OSPFv3
  • Intelligent security: MAC authentication, 802.1X, and protection against DoS and user-based attacks
  • Telemetry-based O&M: continuous collection of device data for simplified operational monitoring

Performance and Forwarding

The switch delivers a forwarding performance of 168 Mpps and a switching capacity of 224 Gbps or 520 Gbps. These figures ensure non-blocking forwarding across all 48 Gigabit ports and the four 10GE uplinks. With support for up to 4,094 VLANs as well as Voice VLAN and MUX VLAN functions, network segmentation can be flexibly adapted to different deployment scenarios.

Security Features and MAC Management

Security features include MAC address authentication, 802.1X authentication, and multi-mode authentication, as well as defense mechanisms against DoS attacks and user-based attacks. The switch supports automatic MAC learning with aging, static, dynamic, and blackhole MAC entries, and packet filtering based on source MAC addresses. Interface-based MAC learning limits prevent uncontrolled address table growth on individual ports.

Interoperability and Routing

VBST is compatible with PVST, PVST+, and RPVST, allowing the switch to integrate into existing Cisco Spanning Tree environments. LNP provides functionality similar to DTP for automatic trunk negotiation. In addition to static routing, multiple dynamic Layer 3 routing protocols are available, including RIPv1/v2, RIPng, OSPF, and OSPFv3. VLAN assignment can be based on MAC addresses, protocols, IP subnets, policies, and ports.

Scope of Delivery

The package includes the S5735-L48LP4XE-A-V2 switch with AC power supply and the L-MLIC-S57L license. The license extends the switch’s functionality with the software features specified by the manufacturer.
