Connectivity and Performance
The MAX Orbit 4 supports satellite connectivity with Starlink, OneWeb, and Iridium, managed uniformly through the InControl platform. It features a 2.5G multi-gigabit WAN interface backward-compatible with GE and FE, as well as a 1G Ethernet port. Routing performance achieves a throughput of 1 Gbps, while VPN throughput reaches 400 Mbps without encryption and 200 Mbps with AES-256 encryption. The number of supported VPN peers is 2, 5, 10, or 20, and the built-in AP controller and switch support a maximum of 30 to 50 devices.
Security and VPN
The router includes a stateful firewall with DoS protection, web blocking, and web content filtering. Its comprehensive VPN solution features SpeedFusion VPN with site-to-site connections, AES-256 encryption, authentication via pre-shared key, and dynamic routing. It also supports X.509 certificates, IPsec VPN for network-to-network connections, remote user access via PPTP, L2TP, and OpenVPN, as well as GRE tunnels.
Management and Advanced Features
Device management is available via an administrative web interface, command line, or InControl 2 cloud management with email notifications, client and active session lists, bandwidth usage statistics, syslog service, and SNMP v1, v2c, and v3. The AP controller supports the Peplink AP series with automatic discovery, automatic firmware management, AP profile configuration, and Wi-Fi usage statistics. The captive portal provides support for wired LAN clients, RADIUS authentication, time and usage quotas in open access mode, and a built-in customizable splash page.
Networking, QoS, and Load Balancing
In networking, the MAX Orbit 4 supports NAT and IP forwarding, static routes, port forwarding, NAT many-to-one and one-to-one, NAT pool, SIP ALG, H.323 ALG, UPnP, NAT-PMP, as well as OSPF, BGP, and RIPv2 with VRRP HA support. Load balancing offers multiple outbound policy algorithms: Weighted Balance, Priority, Overflow, Persistence, Least Used, Lowest Latency, Enforced, and Fastest Response Time. Advanced QoS enables individual bandwidth limits, application prioritization, and custom QoS for SIP, HTTPS, and VPN. Additionally, it supports edge computing with applications and Docker.
Design, Power, and Environment
The device operates in a temperature range of -40° to 149°F (-40° to 65°C) and humidity levels of 15% to 95% without condensation. Power options include an AC power supply from 100V to 240V with 12V DC output, a 4-pin Micro-Fit connector with 10V to 30V DC input, and Power over Ethernet 802.3at. Power consumption is 9W during normal operation and 11W at maximum. The Wi-Fi interface is a simultaneous dual-band (2.4 GHz / 5 GHz) Wi-Fi 6 with 2x2 MU-MIMO, and the antenna connectors include 2x RP-SMA for Wi-Fi and 1x SMA for GPS. The Ethernet ports feature surge and ESD protection circuits.
Scope of Delivery
The package includes 1x MAX Orbit 4, 1x 12V/3A power supply with 4-pin connector, 2x dual-band Wi-Fi antennas, and 1x GPS antenna.
