The Poynting PUCK-5 is a 5-in-1 compact vehicle antenna that combines 2×2 MIMO LTE, 2×2 MIMO dual-band Wi-Fi, and an active GPS/GLONASS system in a single housing. Covering a frequency range from 617 MHz to 4200 MHz, it is designed for use in transportation, marine, IoT, and M2M applications.

Antenna System and Performance

The PUCK-5’s antenna system consists of five independent antennas in a single housing. Two cellular MIMO antennas cover the range from 617 MHz to 4200 MHz, encompassing the most common international LTE bands. Two separate dual-band Wi-Fi antennas support both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands simultaneously and comply with 802.11n as well as 802.11ac/ax standards with 2×2 MIMO each. The fifth antenna is an active GPS/GLONASS system that operates at temperatures as low as −40 °C.

The radiation patterns of all radiating elements provide an excellent balance between omnidirectional coverage, pattern diversity, and strong radiation performance at the desired elevation. Despite its compact size, the antenna delivers high performance, particularly in the higher frequency bands, which is critical for LTE throughput and connection stability. Both LTE ports must be connected to the router or device to ensure optimal performance.

Applications

The PUCK-5 is ideal for a wide range of applications in IoT/M2M, smart metering, intelligent utilities, transportation, maritime, and agriculture. In the transportation sector, it is used on buses, in utility vehicles, and for public safety. In the maritime sector, it covers small boats and yachts in coastal or inland waters.

Additional applications include digital signage, warehouses and logistics systems, industrial factory automation, robotic machinery, mining vehicles, and agricultural equipment. The antenna is designed for machine-to-machine communication, telemetry, and automation.

Housing and Environmental Protection

The PUCK-5’s housing is UV-stabilized, fire-resistant, and IP69K waterproof. The antenna withstands wind speeds of up to 220 km/h and operates in temperatures ranging from −40 °C to +80 °C. Performance remains consistent with or without a ground plane, enhancing installation flexibility.

Scope of Delivery and Connectivity

The antenna comes with 2-meter RTK-031 cables and features SMA male connectors along with RPSMA adapters. The 2-meter cable length simplifies connections to routers and devices in vehicles or installations. For SISO applications, other derivatives of the PUCK series are available.
