Cellular Connectivity & Mobile Performance

The RUTM52 houses two 5G Sub-6 GHz modems compliant with 3GPP Release 16, supporting both standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) network architectures. Each modem achieves downlink speeds of up to 2.1/3.3 Gbps with 4x4 MIMO and uplink of 900/600 Mbps with 2x2 MIMO. Backward compatibility extends to 4G LTE Cat 20 at 2.0 Gbps downlink and 200 Mbps uplink, and to 3G at 42 Mbps downlink and 5.76 Mbps uplink.

Dual physical SIM slots and a consumer-type eSIM together provide redundant cellular paths, with the eSIM supporting profile download and removal for up to seven stored profiles. Automatic SIM switching is triggered by weak signal, data limit, SMS limit, roaming, no network, network denial, data connection failure, or SIM idle protection. Band lock, operator black/white listing by country or carrier, and multiple PDN support give administrators granular control over cellular behaviour.

Wired Networking & Routing

Five Gigabit Ethernet ports comprise one WAN and four LAN ports, all operating at 10/100/1000 Mbps in compliance with IEEE 802.3, 802.3u, and 802.3az standards with auto MDI/MDIX crossover. RutOS supports static routing alongside dynamic routing through BGP, OSPF v2, RIP v1/v2, EIGRP, and NHRP, plus policy-based routing and initial VRF support. Multi-WAN load balancing distributes traffic across cellular, wired, and Wi-Fi WAN connections, with automatic failover configurable for each WAN source.

Additional network features include DDNS support for over 25 providers with manual configuration for others, DNS over HTTPS for secure resolution, DHCP relay with static and dynamic allocation, 802.1x port-based access control, and port-and-tag-based VLAN separation. VoIP passthrough is provided through H.323 and SIP-alg NAT helpers, and bridge and passthrough modes enable direct mobile ISP connectivity or WAN IP assignment to a LAN device.

Wireless Connectivity

The router delivers 802.11b/g/n/ac Wave 2 (Wi-Fi 5) dual-band Wi-Fi with MU-MIMO and data rates up to 867 Mbps, supporting up to 150 simultaneous client connections. Wireless security spans WPA2-PSK, WPA2-Enterprise (PEAP), WPA3-SAE, WPA3-EAP, and OWE with AES-CCMP and TKIP cipher modes, client separation, EAP-TLS with PKCS#12 certificates, and 802.11w Protected Management Frames.

Advanced wireless features include 802.11s mesh networking, 802.11r fast roaming, Relayd, BSS transition management (802.11v), and radio resource measurement (802.11k). ESSID stealth mode conceals the network name, MAC allowlist and blocklist filtering control client access, and a built-in QR code generator lets clients join by scanning without manual credential entry. QoS and Smart Queue Management provide traffic priority queuing by source, destination, service, protocol, or port with WMM and 802.11e support.

Security & VPN

Thirteen VPN technologies are supported, including OpenVPN with 27 encryption methods, IPsec with IKEv1/IKEv2 and 14 encryption methods, WireGuard, Tailscale, ZeroTier, DMVPN (Phase 2, Phase 3, and Dual Hub), GRE over IPsec, L2TP and L2TPv3 over IPsec, PPTP, Stunnel, SSTP, and Tinc. Multiple VPN clients and a server can run simultaneously where the protocol allows.

The firewall provides port forwarding, traffic rules, custom rules, and TTL target customisation, with a dedicated status page displaying rule statistics and counters. Attack prevention covers DDoS (SYN flood, SSH, HTTP/HTTPS), port scan (SYN-FIN, SYN-RST, X-mas, NULL, FIN), and SYN-FIN detection. Authentication options include pre-shared keys, X.509 digital certificates, TACACS+, internal and external RADIUS, IP and login attempt blocking, time-based login blocking, and a built-in random password generator. Let's Encrypt SSL certificate generation is supported, and a web filter provides blacklist and whitelist site control.

Industrial Protocols & Remote Management

RutOS, an OpenWrt-based Linux operating system, integrates industrial protocol support for OPC UA (Client and Server over TCP), MODBUS TCP (Server and Client with custom registers and multiple data formats including 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit INT, UINT, float, HEX, and ASCII), DNP3 (Station and Outstation over TCP), and DLMS (Client over TCP for utility meter data exchange). A Modbus MQTT Gateway enables command dispatch and data retrieval from MODBUS servers through an MQTT broker, and the Data to Server feature aggregates parameters from multiple sources and protocols into a single server stream with custom Lua scripting support.

Remote management is available through the Teltonika Remote Management System (RMS), a beta Web API with configurable endpoints for retrieving or changing device data, SSH (v1 and v2), CLI, and a web UI supporting HTTPS, firmware updates, event and system logging, and a visual network topology view. FOTA delivers automatic firmware updates from server with notification, and connection monitoring tools include Ping Reboot, Wget Reboot, Periodic Reboot, and LCP/ICMP link inspection. A captive portal hotspot supports internal and external RADIUS, SMS and SSO authentication, walled garden, user groups with individual or group limitations, nine customisable themes, and custom theme upload and download.

Hardware Platform

The RUTM52 is powered by a MediaTek dual-core processor running at 880 MHz (MIPS1004Kc), backed by 256 MB DDR3 RAM and a combined 272 MB of flash storage — 16 MB serial NOR and 256 MB serial NAND. Integrated GNSS supports GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, and QZSS positioning. The operating system supports Busybox shell, Lua, C, and C++ for custom development, and SSHFS allows mounting remote file systems via SSH. The router carries CE, UKCA, RCM, FCC, IC, EAC, UCRF, and WEE certifications and includes a 24-month warranty.
