Powerful Routing & Fiber Backhaul

The EdgePoint EP-R8 integrates the powerful EdgeMAX routing platform, offering comprehensive Layer-3 functionality. Static routes and dynamic routing protocols such as OSPF, RIP, and BGP enable flexible adaptation to complex WISP networks. Load balancing and failover provide redundancy and enhanced performance for wireless uplinks. The fiber backhaul capability, combined with FiberProtect™, reduces electrostatic discharge and electromagnetic interference, improves signal integrity, and consolidates data backhaul onto a single fiber cable for long distances.

Rugged Design for Outdoor Use

The weatherproof housing made of die-cast aluminum alloy and UV-resistant polycarbonate reliably protects the electronics from wind, rain, and snow. The EdgePoint withstands wind speeds of up to 200 km/h and operates in a temperature range of -40 to 65 °C. The included strain relief cable gland protects the cable entry, and a grounding point provides additional safety. Mounting brackets for pole and wall mounting are included in the package.

Versatile Power Supply & PoE

The EdgePoint EP-R8 offers flexible power supply options: It can be powered via a DC terminal block (54 VDC, 6 A) or via two passive PoE inputs (54 V, 1.5 A) on eth0 and PoE In. For PoE output, two ports (eth1–eth2) provide 54 V or 24 V / 1.4 A (4-pair), and five ports (eth3–eth7) provide 24 V / 0.7 A (2-pair). This allows Ubiquiti airFiber, airMAX, and other devices to be powered directly. The supported voltage range is 56–42 V DC, with a maximum power consumption of 40 W (without PoE output).

Comprehensive Management & Security

Configuration is done via an intuitive graphical user interface or command line via serial console, SSH, or Telnet. VLAN interfaces enable logical network segmentation. Comprehensive security features such as firewall policies, NAT rules, and Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) protect the network. DHCP services, Quality of Service (QoS), and full IPv6 support round out the feature set.
