The OMNI-85 from Poynting is a third-generation 5G/LTE wideband omnidirectional antenna designed for direct router mounting and M2M/IoT applications. It covers 617 to 3800 MHz with a peak gain of 3.5 dBi and provides backward compatibility with 2G, 3G, and 4G technologies.

Performance and coverage

The antenna operates across four distinct frequency bands: 617–960 MHz, 1427–1517 MHz, 1710–2700 MHz, and 3400–3800 MHz. Gain varies by band: it reaches 3.5 dBi in the 1710–2700 MHz range, 2.5 dBi at 3400–3800 MHz, 1.2 dBi at 1427–1517 MHz, and 0 dBi at 617–960 MHz. VSWR is less than 2.5:1, and the antenna supports input power up to 10 W with a nominal input impedance of 50 Ohm. Polarization is linear vertical, and the antenna uses a SISO configuration with a single port.

Design and deployment

The antenna measures 209 mm × 31 mm with a diameter of 13 mm and weighs 42 g. The radome is made of halogen-free ABS in black. Mounting is done via a threaded SMA male connector, designed for direct attachment to routers or equipment. The design is intended for indoor use, with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C and relative humidity up to 98%. The antenna features IP 55 protection against water ingress and IK 05 impact resistance. The radome meets UL 94-HB flammability classification and has been tested for salt spray resistance according to MIL-STD 810G/ASTM B117.

Use cases

The antenna is ideal for M2M/IoT applications and indoor environments requiring improved data signal reception. It addresses 5G/LTE fringe areas where connectivity is nearby but just out of reach. Its wideband design eliminates the need for a different antenna when switching network operators. The portable and lightweight design enables quick mobile deployment and easy installation.
