Connectivity and performance

The RUT361 leverages LTE Cat 6 Carrier Aggregation to achieve download speeds up to 300 Mbps, with fallback to 3G networks up to 42 Mbps. Its 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity with 2x2 MIMO technology supports both Access Point and Station modes, handling up to 50 simultaneous connections with features such as ESSID stealth mode, 802.11s wireless mesh, 802.11r fast roaming, and MAC filtering.

The router features one WAN and one LAN port, both at 10/100 Mbps with auto MDI/MDIX support and compliance with IEEE 802.3, 802.3u, and 802.3az standards. Traffic balancing across multiple WAN connections and network backup options via VRRP, Wi-Fi WAN, and mobile ensure service continuity. Bridge mode allows direct pass-through of the mobile WAN IP address to a device on the LAN.

Routing supports static and dynamic modes with BGP, OSPF v2, RIP v1/v2, EIGRP, and NHRP, as well as policy-based routing. QoS manages traffic priority by source, destination, service, protocol, or port, with WMM and 802.11e support. DDNS is compatible with over 25 service providers, also configurable manually.

Security and VPN

The RUT361’s preconfigured firewall allows unlimited configuration via CLI and includes DMZ, NAT, NAT-T, port forwarding, traffic rules, and custom rules. DDoS attack prevention covers SYN flood, SSH, and HTTP/HTTPS attacks, while port scan prevention protects against SYN-FIN, SYN-RST, X-mas, NULL flags, and FIN scans. Port- and tag-based VLAN separation adds an additional layer of network segmentation.

VPN support is among the most comprehensive in its class: OpenVPN with 27 encryption methods, IPsec with IKEv1 and IKEv2 and 14 encryption methods, GRE tunnel, GRE over IPsec, PPTP, L2TP, L2TP over IPsec, Stunnel, DMVPN, SSTP, ZeroTier, WireGuard, Tinc, and Tailscale. Authentication supports pre-shared keys, X.509 digital certificates, TACACS+, and RADIUS, with automatic lockout for failed access attempts. Wi-Fi security includes WPA3-EAP, WPA3-SAE, WPA2-Enterprise-PEAP, WPA2-PSK, and WEP with AES-CCMP and TKIP encryption.

Management and protocols

The RUT361 runs RutOS, an OpenWrt Linux-based operating system optimised for industrial devices. Management is accessible via Web UI (HTTP/HTTPS), CLI, SSH v1/v2, SMS, and TR-069, with compatibility for numerous ACS platforms including OpenACS, EasyCwmp, GenieACS, AVSystem, and others. Monitoring includes SNMP v1/v2/v3, SNMP Trap, JSON-RPC, MODBUS TCP and USB, OPC UA TCP, DNP3 TCP/USB, and DLMS TCP/USB.

Native integration with IoT platforms supports Clouds of Things, ThingWorx, Cumulocity, and Azure IoT Hub, with data transmission protocols to servers via HTTP(S), MQTT, and Azure MQTT. The connection monitoring system implements Ping Reboot, Wget Reboot, Periodic Reboot, and link inspection via LCP and ICMP. Firmware updates can be performed from a file, server, via FOTA, or RMS, with configuration backup and settings retention.

SMS functionalities include status checks, configuration, sending and reading via HTTP POST/GET, EMAIL to SMS, SMS to EMAIL, SMS to HTTP, scheduled SMS, autoreply, and SMPP. USSD support enables sending and reading Unstructured Supplementary Service Data messages. Operator management offers blacklisting/whitelisting, band locking, display of used bands, Auto APN, and Multiple PDN support for differentiated network access and services.

Design and power supply

The RUT361 is housed in an aluminium enclosure with IP30 protection and compact dimensions of 93.2 x 100 x 30 mm, weighing 243 g. Mounting options include DIN rail or flat surface, suitable for installation in electrical cabinets and tight spaces. The extended operating temperature range from -40 °C to 75 °C and humidity tolerance from 10% to 90% (non-condensing) allow use in harsh environmental conditions.

Power is supplied via a 4-pin industrial DC connector with an input voltage range of 9 to 30 VDC, featuring reverse polarity and transient surge protection. Power consumption remains low: less than 2.4 W at idle and less than 4.7 W at maximum load. Passive PoE can be installed on request. The 2 digital inputs detect 0-6 V as low logic and 8-30 V as high logic, while the 2 Open Collector digital outputs support up to 30 V and 300 mA, with I/O events configurable via email, RMS, or SMS using the I/O juggler.
