Connectivity and Performance

The RUTM20 uses a global Telit 5G modem compliant with 3GPP Release 16, achieving downlink speeds of up to 2.5 or 3.4 Gbit/s in 5G Sub-6GHz mode with 4×4 MIMO, and uplink speeds of up to 900 or 550 Mbit/s. In 4G LTE fallback mode, the router supports LTE Cat 19 with up to 1.6 Gbit/s downlink and LTE Cat 18 with up to 211 Mbit/s uplink. For 3G networks, it provides up to 42 Mbit/s downlink and 5.7 Mbit/s uplink. A MediaTek dual-core processor running at 880 MHz, 256 MB DDR3 RAM, and 256 MB NAND flash ensure robust system performance.

SIM Management and Failover

The router features two internal 2FF SIM slots and a consumer eSIM capable of managing up to seven profiles; data plans are not included. Automatic SIM switching occurs in response to weak signal, data limits, SMS limits, roaming, network loss, network denial, or connection failure. SIM IDle Protection periodically switches to the unused SIM to prevent deactivation. SIM PIN management allows setting, changing, or disabling the PIN.

Network Functions and Routing

Via one Gigabit WAN and one Gigabit LAN port, both 10/100/1000 Mbit/s with Auto-MDI/MDIX, the RUTM20 connects wired devices. It supports static and dynamic routing with BGP, OSPF v2, RIP v1/v2, EIGRP, NHRP, and policy-based routing. Network backup options include Wi-Fi WAN, cellular, VRRP, and wired connections, each serving as automatic failover. Load balancing distributes traffic across multiple WAN links. VLAN separation is port- and tag-based, and VRF is initially supported.

Industrial Protocols and Management

The RUTM20 supports BACnet in router mode, Modbus TCP as client and server, OPC UA as client and server, DNP3 as station and outstation, and DLMS/COSEM as client—all over TCP. Modbus TCP offers custom register blocks with read/write access to files on the router and supports data formats from 8-bit INT to 32-bit float in various endian variants. Management options include a web UI via HTTP/HTTPS, CLI, SSH v1/v2, SNMP v1/v2/v3, JSON-RPC, TR-069 with multiple ACS systems, MQTT, and SMS-based control for reboot, status, and data connection.

Security and VPN

A TPM 2.0 module provides hardware-based identification and authentication. The certificate manager creates CA, server, client, Let’s Encrypt, and SCEP certificates. Port-based 802.1x access control operates as both client and server. The firewall includes port forwarding, traffic rules, TTL adjustment, and protection against DDoS, port scan, and SYN flood attacks. OpenVPN supports 27 encryption methods, while IPsec offers 14 methods, including AES-GCM variants. Additional VPN options include WireGuard, ZeroTier, Tailscale, Tinc, SSTP, GRE, PPTP, L2TP, DMVPN Phase 2 and 3, and Stunnel for TLS encryption of existing connections.

Wi-Fi and Hotspot

The RUTM20 broadcasts 802.11ac Wave 2 in dual-band mode with MU-MIMO and speeds up to 867 Mbit/s. It supports up to 150 simultaneous Wi-Fi clients, 802.11s mesh, 802.11r fast roaming, 802.11v BSS transition, and 802.11k resource measurement. Wi-Fi security includes WPA2-PSK, WPA2-Enterprise, WPA3-SAE, WPA3-EAP, OWE, and PMF per 802.11w. A captive portal offers internal and external RADIUS authentication, SMS authorization, SSO, walled garden, and nine customizable themes. Hotspot 2.0 enables seamless, secure connections to trusted networks.

Power Supply and Mounting

The router accepts 9–50 VDC via a 4-pin industrial DC connector and supports active PoE 802.3af/at on the WAN port as well as passive PoE with 1850 VDC. The LAN port outputs PoE 802.3af/at Alternative A with up to 30 W per port. Power consumption is under 4.5 W idle and under 8.5 W at maximum load. Protection against reverse polarity and voltage transients is built in. The housing is made of anodized aluminum; the protection rating is IP30. Mounting options include DIN rail, wall mounting, and flat surfaces, each with an additional kit.
