Connectivity and Performance

The TRB142 operates on 4G (LTE) Cat 1 networks with speeds up to 10 Mbit/s, 3G networks up to 42 Mbit/s, and 2G networks up to 236.8 kbit/s. The device supports LTE-FDD bands B1, B3, B7, B8, B20, B28A for regions in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Korea, Thailand, India, and Malaysia, as well as additional bands B2, B4, B5, B40 for South America, Australia, New Zealand, and Taiwan. Maximum transmit power is 33 dBm for GSM, 24 dBm for WCDMA, and 23 dBm for LTE.

The SMA antenna connector (male) operates in the frequency ranges 698–960 and 1710–2690 MHz with an impedance of 50 ohms, a VSWR of less than 2, and a gain of 2 dB. The Mini-SIM card slot (2FF) supports voltages of 1.8 V and 3 V. The device features 128 MB RAM, with 50 MB available for user space, and 512 MB flash memory, with 200 MB for user data.

Serial Communication and Inputs/Outputs

The RS-232 interface is implemented via a DB9 connector with 5-pin configuration and flow control: Pin 2 – Data Receive (RX, output), Pin 3 – Data Transmit (TX, input), Pin 5 – Ground (GND), Pin 7 – Request to Send (RTS, input), Pin 8 – Clear to Send (CTS, output). Supported serial communication modes include Console, OverIP, Modem, Modbus RTU Master, Modbus Gateway, and NTRIP Client. Data bits are adjustable from 5 to 8, stop bits 1 or 2, parity None, Even, or Odd, and flow control None, RTS/CTS, or Xon/Xoff.

The device supports Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP with functions 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 15, 16 and baud rates from 300 to 115200 baud. Modbus data formats include 8-bit INT and UINT, 16-bit INT and UINT with MSB or LSB order, as well as 32-bit Float, INT, and UINT in ABCD, DCBA, CDAB, and BADC formats. Modbus TCP slave ID filtering supports the range from 1 to 255 or any ID.

Two configurable digital inputs/outputs are located on the 4-pin power connector. The Micro-USB port provides a virtual network interface for internet connectivity and device configuration.

Security and VPN

The TRB142 supports VPN protocols OpenVPN, IPsec, GRE, PPTP, and L2TP. IPsec implements IKEv1 and IKEv2 with support for up to 5 simultaneous tunnels and five encryption methods: DES, 3DES, AES128, AES192, and AES256. OpenVPN offers 12 encryption methods, including AES-128-CBC, AES-192-CBC, AES-256-CBC, DES-CBC, DES-EDE3-CBC, CAST5-CBC, and others. Authentication is performed via pre-shared keys, digital certificates, and X.509 certificates.

The firewall provides predefined rules that can be enabled via the web interface, as well as unlimited configuration via the CLI, including NAT and NAT-T. Access protection covers TCP, UDP, and ICMP packets, as well as MAC address filtering. Supported network protocols include TCP, UDP, IPv4, IPv6, ICMP, NTP, DNS, HTTP, HTTPS, SSL v3, TLS, SSH, DHCP, SNMP, and MQTT.

Management and Monitoring

The device runs on RutOS, based on OpenWrt Linux. The web interface is accessible via HTTP/HTTPS and provides status display, configuration, firmware updates, CLI, diagnostics, system log, and kernel log. It supports SSH versions 1 and 2, SMS status and configuration, as well as MQTT broker and MQTT publisher. The management API is implemented via JSON-RPC over HTTP/HTTPS.

Remote management is handled via the Teltonika Remote Management System (RMS). FOTA enables firmware updates from the server with automatic notifications. Connection monitoring includes Ping Reboot, periodic reboot, LCP, and ICMP for connection checks, as well as Wget. Static routing, static and dynamic IP assignment via DHCP, and traffic prioritization by source, destination, service, protocol, or port are supported.

Design and Power Supply

The aluminum housing measures 64.4 × 74.5 × 25 mm, weighs 135 g, and has an IP30 protection rating. The device operates at temperatures from -40 °C to 75 °C and humidity levels from 10 % to 90 % without condensation. Mounting options include attachment to a DIN rail from the bottom or side, on a flat surface, or direct PCB mounting on a DIN rail.

Power is supplied via a 4-pin industrial DC connector in the range of 9–30 V DC with a power consumption of less than 5 W. The power connector is protected against reverse polarity and overvoltage above 33 V DC. The power adapter draws 0.4 A at 100–240 V AC and delivers 9 V DC, 0.5 A via a 4-pin connector. The housing features 3 LEDs for connection type, 5 for signal strength, and 1 for power. The reset button restores factory settings.

Certifications

The TRB142 complies with CE/RED, EAC, RoHS, and WEEE standards. The device is certified to IEC 62368-1:2014 (Second Edition) and EN 62368-1:2014+A11:2017. Compliance with radio standards is confirmed by EN 50385:2017 and EN 62232:2017. Electromagnetic compatibility is ensured according to the EN 61000-4 series, including EN 61000-4-2:2009, EN 61000-4-3:2006 + A1:2008 + A2:2010, EN 61000-4-4:2012, EN 61000-4-5:2014, EN 61000-4-6:2014, and EN 61000-4-11:2004.
