Applications

The switch works as a central aggregation node where multiple sites or outstations are combined over fiber: smart grid substations with several remote stations, ITS and traffic-control nodes along highways, smart city surveillance networks with numerous camera segments, and generally the aggregation of several access switches at one central rack location. Because all 24 base ports are SFP slots, long distances between buildings or plant sections can be bridged without separate media converters, while the 4x 10G SFP+ slots serve as a high-speed uplink to the core network or data center.

Technical Overview

Store-and-forward switching with L2 wire-speed throughput and an 8,000-entry MAC address table deliver loss-free operation even under full port load. Profile- and policy-based ACLs with up to 20 profiles and 32 rules per profile, matched against VLAN ID, MAC, EtherType, IP, protocol, TCP/UDP port and DSCP/ToS, enable fine-grained control of aggregated traffic with actions such as drop, queue mapping, rate limiting or mirroring. 8 queues per port with SPQ/WRR and hierarchical shaping, plus a TrTCM traffic policer starting at 1 Kbit/s, ensure prioritized forwarding. RSTP/MSTP with BPDU forwarding/filtering, 802.3ad link aggregation (static or LACP), IGMP snooping with up to 512 multicast groups, and Multicast VLAN Registration (MVR) round out the L2 feature set. On the security side, IP-/MAC- and policy-based access control, 802.1X with a RADIUS client, and storm control on a port and VLAN basis guard against misuse. The switch is managed via CLI, a web-based interface, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, Telnet with up to 5 sessions and HTTPS/SSH; TFTP/FTP handles configuration and firmware transfer, while a copper diagnostics tool and policy-based stream mirroring support troubleshooting. The IP30 metal housing and extended temperature range make the switch suitable for unconditioned equipment rooms and cabinets, and certification to UL 61010-1, CE and FCC plus EN 61000-6-2/-6-4 confirms its suitability for industrial use.

Note

The DIS-700G-28XS is a pure Layer 2+ device without dynamic IP routing (no RIP/OSPF/VRRP) - for network segments requiring their own Layer 3 routing, the DIS-310G-24X from the same series is the better fit. Operating temperature and VLAN count show discrepancies between manufacturer sources, documented in the notes.
