Performance & Throughput

The switch provides a switching capacity of 320 Gbps and a maximum packet forwarding rate of 238.08 Mpps using a store-and-forward transmission method. Its MAC address table accommodates up to 32,000 entries per device, and jumbo frames of up to 10 KB are supported for efficient large-payload transfers. Each copper interface auto-negotiates across 100/1000/2.5G/5G/10GBASE-T speeds, giving the network flexibility to mix existing Gigabit links with newer multi-Gigabit and 10G connections without changing hardware.

Layer 2+ Features & Management

As a Layer 2+ Smart Managed switch, the DXS-1210-16TC offers a complete Layer 2 feature set augmented with static routing for both IPv4 and IPv6. Spanning Tree support covers 802.1D STP, 802.1s MSTP, and 802.1w RSTP, and Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (ERPS) is supported for resilient ring topologies. Link aggregation follows 802.1AX and 802.3ad with a maximum of eight groups and eight ports per group.

VLAN support extends to 4K static VLAN groups with GVRP and port-based VLAN types. Advanced VLAN features include Asymmetric VLAN, Auto Surveillance VLAN for real-time video monitoring traffic, and Auto Voice VLAN that automatically places voice traffic from IP phones into a designated VLAN. The switch supports 16 IP interfaces, with static route entries of up to 64 for IPv4 and 64 for IPv6.

Management is available through a web-based GUI, a full command-line interface, Telnet server, TFTP client, and SNMP v1/v2c/v3. An RJ-45 console port provides direct local access, and LLDP and LLDP-MED are supported for neighbour discovery and endpoint policy. RMON v1/v2 and ICMPv6 are also included for traffic monitoring and IPv6 network diagnostics.

Security & Access Control

The switch enforces access control through 802.1X port-based authentication and RADIUS/TACACS+ authentication for centralized credential management. IP-MAC-port binding (IMPB) and Smart Binding are supported to prevent address spoofing, and ARP spoofing protection is included. Access Control Lists are VLAN-based and can be defined based on packet contents, with a maximum of 50 access lists and 256 ACL rules.

Encryption protocols include SSH and SSL (v1/v2/v3) for secure management sessions. Port security allows up to 6,656 MAC addresses per port, and cable diagnostics are supported for troubleshooting physical-layer connectivity. Eight QoS priority queues per port with 64 Kbps bandwidth-control granularity enable granular traffic shaping, and CoS based on packet contents is supported.

Design & Power

The switch is housed in a metal chassis measuring 440 x 210 x 44 mm and weighing 3.123 kg, and it is rackmountable. It operates from a 100 to 240 VAC power supply with a maximum power consumption of 64.2 W and a standby consumption of 31.7 W. D-Link Green technology and IEEE 802.3az Energy-Efficient Ethernet are both supported to reduce power usage. Diagnostic LEDs report link, activity, and speed per 10GBASE-T and SFP+ port, plus power, console, and fan-error status.

Deployment & Use-Cases

The DXS-1210-16TC is positioned for Small-to-Medium-Business customers needing multi-Gigabit and 10G connectivity for virtualisation and server-to-server applications. Auto MDI/MDIX adjustment on all twisted-pair ports simplifies cabling, and 10GBASE-T connections are supported over Cat 6 cabling up to 30 m or Cat 6A and Cat 7 cabling up to 100 m. Auto Surveillance VLAN and Auto Voice VLAN make the switch suitable for VoIP and video surveillance deployments where real-time traffic prioritisation is required. IGMP snooping supports up to 384 groups and MLD snooping supports up to 384 groups for multicast traffic management.
