Performance and Connectivity

The Balance 310X delivers a routing throughput of 2.5 Gbit/s across all Gigabit Ethernet ports. On the WAN side, it features an embedded LTEA-PRO modem with redundant SIM slots, supporting cellular data rates up to CAT-12 with 600 Mbit/s downlink and 150 Mbit/s uplink, or CAT-20 with 2 Gbit/s downlink and 211 Mbit/s uplink. Two additional Gigabit Ethernet WAN ports and two USB 2.0 interfaces allow for wired connections and external 4G/3G modems. WAN link health checks via PING, DNS lookup, and HTTP continuously monitor connection quality, while the bandwidth allowance monitor protects against unexpected overages. On the LAN side, nine Gigabit Ethernet ports provide DHCP server, DNS proxy, and VLAN support.

SD-WAN and VPN

SpeedFusion VPN enables site-to-site connections with bandwidth bonding and hot failover across multiple WAN links. PepVPN throughput reaches 600 Mbit/s unencrypted and 500 Mbit/s with 256-bit AES encryption. The router supports IPsec VPN with X.509 certificate authentication, PPTP, L2TP, and OpenVPN server functionality, as well as GRE tunnels for network-to-network connections. Intelligent load balancing distributes traffic using multiple algorithms—including Weighted, Enforced, Persistence, Priority, Overflow, Least Used, Lowest Latency, and Fastest Response Time—across available WAN links. Session persistence ensures consistent application behavior during link transitions.

Security and Network Management

A stateful firewall with DoS prevention, web blocking, and web filtering protects the network perimeter. Advanced QoS enables bandwidth reservation and per-user group bandwidth limits with application prioritization for SIP, HTTPS, VPN, and custom applications. The router supports dynamic routing protocols BGP, OSPFv2, and RIPv2, as well as NAT, IP forwarding, port forwarding, and VRRP high availability. An integrated AP controller manages Pepwave AP-Series access points with automatic discovery, firmware management, and profile configuration. The captive portal supports both wired and wireless LAN clients with RADIUS and LDAP authentication, time and usage quotas, and a customizable splash page. An integrated authoritative DNS server supports A, CNAME, NS, MX, PTR, SOA, SRV, and TXT records.
