Performance and Connectivity
The MAX BR2 delivers a router throughput of 300 Mbit/s and provides cellular data rates of up to 150 Mbit/s downlink and 50 Mbit/s uplink via its two CAT-4 modems. The integrated modems support LTE bands B1, B3, B5, B7, B8, B20, B38, B40, B41 as well as 3G bands B1, B5, B8, optimized for APAC and EMEA regions. Four SMA antenna connectors for cellular and one SMA connector for GPS ensure reliable reception even in challenging environments.
In addition to the cellular interfaces, the device features a Gigabit WAN port and four Gigabit LAN ports, one of which supports PoE input according to 802.3at. The SpeedFusion VPN technology enables bonding of all WAN connections with a throughput of 80 Mbit/s without encryption and 60 Mbit/s with 256-bit AES encryption. Up to 5 VPN peers can be connected to build site-to-site networks.
Design and Power Supply
The compact, fanless metal housing (175 x 130 x 41 mm, 1.1 kg) is designed for continuous operation under harsh conditions. The temperature range of -40 °C to 65 °C and humidity tolerance of 15% to 95% (non-condensing) make the router suitable for vehicle installations, outdoor locations, and industrial environments. Power can be supplied via the Micro-Fit connector (12–30 V DC), terminal block (12–30 V DC), included AC adapter (100–240 V AC to 12 V DC), or Power over Ethernet (802.3at). Typical power consumption is 8 W, maximum 13 W.
Management and Security
The MAX BR2 can be managed via the web interface, command line, or the cloud-based InControl-2 platform. InControl provides GPS-based location tracking, fleet management, and detailed usage statistics. SNMP v1/v2c/v3, Syslog, and email notifications enable integration into existing monitoring systems.
For access control, an integrated captive portal with RADIUS authentication, time and volume quotas, and a customizable splash page are available. The stateful firewall protects against DoS attacks and unwanted web content. Advanced QoS functions prioritize voice and video data (SIP, HTTPS, VPN) and allow custom application profiles and individual bandwidth limits.
VPN and Quality of Service
SpeedFusion VPN is the core of the failover capability: It combines multiple WAN connections into a logical tunnel and compensates for packet loss in real time. In addition to hot failover, load distribution algorithms such as Weighted Balance, Priority, Overflow, Least Used, and Lowest Latency are available. IPsec VPNs (site-to-site) with 256-bit AES, pre-shared keys, and X.509 certificates complement the VPN features. Dynamic routing, NAT/PAT, port forwarding, and VLAN support round out the network functions.
