airMAX Technology and Performance

The NanoStation Loco M5 uses Ubiquiti’s airMAX protocol, a time-division multiple-access method that assigns predefined time slots to each client, managed by an intelligent access point controller. This time-slot approach eliminates hidden-node collisions and significantly boosts airtime efficiency. Compared to conventional outdoor Wi-Fi systems, it delivers noticeable improvements in latency, throughput, and scalability.

An integrated QoS system prioritizes voice and video data for uninterrupted streaming. The platform’s high capacity and scalability enable the deployment of carrier-class wireless links over long distances. With a transmit power of 23 dBm and cross-polarization isolation of at least 20 dB, the device operates reliably even in challenging RF environments.

Use Cases

As a client in an airMAX PtMP network, the NanoStation Loco M5 serves as a high-performance subscriber unit, receiving data from a central access point. For point-to-point links, two devices can be deployed as a direct wireless bridge. Plug-and-play integration with existing airMAX installations simplifies deployment.

Design and Power Supply

The housing is made of UV-stabilized polycarbonate for outdoor use and includes a mast-mounting bracket. With dimensions of 161 x 31 x 80 mm and a weight of 180 g, the device can be discreetly mounted on masts and brackets. Power is supplied via passive PoE using a 24V/0.5A adapter, which is included. The supported voltage range is 22 to 27 V DC with a maximum power consumption of 5.5 W. A 10/100 MbE RJ45 port is provided for network connectivity.

Certifications and Environmental Conditions

The NanoStation Loco M5 is designed for global operation in the 5170 to 5875 MHz frequency range. In the USA, it supports the 5725 to 5850 MHz and 5250 to 5850 MHz bands with DFS. The device is certified to FCC Part 15.247, IC RS210, and CE standards, and is RoHS-compliant. Certification to ETSI300-019-1.4 covers shock and vibration resistance. It operates in temperatures from -30 to 75 °C and humidity levels of 5 to 95%. The device is NDAA-compliant.
